[mirage] seen by Ducky mirage (mi räzh') n. an optical illusion, caused by the refraction of light, in which a distant object appears nearby [act xx: notation // begin] (In which the author attempts to explain this crazy fic that took over 3 years to finish) (‘attempts’ being the operative word) 'Have you ever had a dream that seemed too real? A dream where you were convinced that it was reality and when you woke up you didn't know if you were still dreaming?' Dreams don’t make sense. They meld and blend into each other. Hence the style of this story. Sorry for the confusion that caused, but not really; that’s how it was meant to be. Well, not exactly. This was supposed to be a comic (think CLAMP’s “Clover” with the interlaced lyrics and sparse visuals) but that didn’t happen. Instead, [mirage] happened. I don’t apologize for the style, but I do apologize for the inconsistencies and overall liberties taken with many characters. Not to mention the very random use of Japanese. I point to Satoshi Kon’s “Paprika,” Takaya Natsuki’s “Fruits Basket,” and Missy Good’s “Journey of Soulmates” as my inspiration in addition to the aforementioned CLAMP. Oh, and "Return of the King" for the 'when is this going to end?!?' ending. Heh. Did anyone notice a likening to the Super S movie? I didn’t notice it until I watched it again recently. That was unintentional. But I digress. Thank you to everyone who left comments. Comments are a writer’s best friend. Insert happy face here. Special thanks to Jenna Dalgety and Starsea. I’d have not finished if not for you two. Thanks for reading. [act xx: notation // end] Ducky May 12, 2003 – January 13, 2007
