Very lovely piece! The use of subtle dark colors within the black make the black itself seem darker and deeper.

Also, the expression on Mistress Nine's face is gorgeous - the concentration with a subtle hint of coyness.

The shading/gradient in some places is done very well, but seems to be forgotten in others. The skeletal wings on Hotaru, for example, have a lovely transition from dark to light (and make me think of Sephiroth a la Final Fantasy Seven); however, Mistress Nine's large left hand, where the palm is facing the viewer, seems to be lacking depth entirely.

All together, very good work, and easy to see how this piece is ranked so high in the gallery.

Artist's response:

Hey! Thanks! This was one of my first ventures into coloring my works on Photoshop. The lack of detail is because I think the hand cramping from using my laptop mouse because I didn't have a real one at the time just eventually tired me out. Not much of an excuse but my index finger was starting to look deformed... hell, typing this reply and thinking back, I can just feel the phantom discomfort this piece of work cost me!

But I still like it a lot and it was hours upon hours of work. I'd like to go back and finish it when I get better with my Wacom... but that's for the future. Anywho, thanks again for reviewing!
