Chapter One
Disclaimer:
I will write this only once per story, because I don’t like repeating myself. I
don’t own Escaflowne or Van or Hitomi
and never will. End of story.
Chapter One
She couldn’t
understand how this happened.
One minute
she was Hitomi, the carefree princess of Kanzakia, and the next she she
was engaged to some prince from a neighboring country. She stomped down the
halls to her room thinking about the conversation she had with her parent a few
moments ago.
Flashback
She was running towards the throne room with
only one thought in mind, This can’t be happening! I can’t be engaged!! When she finally reached the heavy wooden doors, she was panting from
the run. Calmly straightening her pose she opened them and quickly made her way
to her parents.
“Mother what is going on? I overheard the
servant talking about a wedding. Is it true?” she spoke with respect and, a
touch of fear in her voice.
“My Dear, you speak as if you weren’t aware of
it. I thought we discussed this when your court lessons have begun. Have you
not listened to me then?” The Queen asked, stressing her words.
Hitomi began to wonder. She vaguely remembered the day her mother began
training her in the ways of the court. They were talking about arranged marriages;
however, she wasn’t listening very carefully thinking herself too young to
bother with this. After all she was 8 years old, at the time.
“I told you my dear that you would one day
marry Prince Van of Fanelia, because his parents and
us have decided to engage you to the young prince when you were born.” The Queen
looked at her child in slight irritation, wondering what else her daughter not
listened to when learning court manners.
“But I can’t marry him! I don’t even know him!”
Hitomi shouted with distress.
“That, my child, is the point of an arranged marriage.
You are not to meet him until you turn eighteen, which, I believe, will be in
half a year.” The King said with a calm tone, mentally uniting with his daughter
in her pain. Although, his marriage had worked out in the end, he too was not
pleased with his parents when he found out about it.
“There has to be a way out of this… I don’t
want to marry…” Hitomi said lowering her head.
“Nonsense my dear! You have to marry in order
to produce an heir to the throne! It is your duty as the only Princess of Kanzakia!” The Queen practically shouted at her, making her
cringe silently.
“Hitomi, maybe you
should reconsider idea. Prince Van is a good man. I’m sure he’ll treat you appropriately.”
The King said with a controlled expression.
End of Flashback
Like Hell
she’ll reconsider! There was no way she was going to marry some guy she has
never met, just because her parents told her to! That however, would take
planning. A lot of planning. But she was ready for the challenge.
She would do anything to have her freedom back.
He was
waiting for her.
They always
met in this cherry grove. It became almost habitual now. He always came here at
noon
and waited for her to come. After some time she would approach him, thinking he
wasn’t aware of her presence and try to scare him. And every ingle time he
would simply turn around and smile at her, telling her she made herself too
loud.
It was easy
for both of them to lose themselves while spending time together. They would
talk about their interests or go for a walk through the city. Luckily, it never
got them into trouble.
After
saying their goodnights he would always wonder when will the day come, when he
won’t have to leave her side at all. He knew it would come soon, but it still
didn’t make him less eager. Or more patient. He loved her, dammit! He had come
to terms with his feelings for her a long time ago.
Yet still
he couldn’t tell her the truth. He couldn’t tell her who he really was. Couldn’t
tell her he was not Vincent, the rich merchants’ son. Couldn’t tell that he
repeatedly broke the rules just to see her again.
Couldn’t
tell her he was Van Fanel.
