Story diverges from canon at episode 2x16 ("Appa's Lost Days"). Confronted with reality at its most unforgiving, Prince Zuko makes a decision that will change the course of the war for good. And as Aang and his friends continue their search for Appa, the Fire Nation escalates its goal to finally topple Ba Sing Se.
Author's Comments:
This story was conceived long before the end of season 2. But as the canon seemed to lose its nerve in the third season, I was determined more than ever to explore the aspects of the source material that the canon storyline wouldn't touch with a HAZMAT suit. As such, the subject matter is going to get gradually darker.
