It's hard for me to objective about this story because I love it so much. I think you capture the cruel edge that exists between these two, not just because of Jadeite's betrayal but because neither of them are very kind: "But then all his jokes are cruel. It’s just who he is."
I love how their conversation is more like a duel than anything else, both of them thrusting and parrying: "“Such maneuvering for a father and daughter.”
“I imagine your family dinners are similar,” you remark. “Since your father is in the House of Councilors.”
I love how Rei notices tiny details about him - his lips, the scar on his chin - despite herself which makes me think she's staring at him very intensely, and how very aware she is of her body when she's sitting with him.
I love how she has the upper hand in the conversation nearly all the way through and then, of course, being Rei, she takes it too far. I like how he swiftly takes advantage of that because he's just as quick to punish as she is. And of course, he has the last word!
Lastly, I love that underneath the arrogance and the cruelty, both of them are vulnerable and want something more but Rei is far too proud and scared to even indicate it and he will never admit it while she pretends not to care.
I hope you write more Rei/Jadeite because I think you really have a feel for them.

Author's response:
Oh, thank you so much! I'm so thrilled you liked it so much. :D
And if and when I ever write more for them, I will let you know first. Part of the reason I can write them with any skill is because of you, so.
