I like this. They don't have any real sense of what they've lost, but there's still something missing, a longing so strong that they'll go willingly into the territory of their enemies for a chance to fill that void. There always seemed to be a connection between Jadeite and Rei, more than between any of the other shitennou and senshi, and it's nice to see some background to his behavior. Beautifully written.

Author's response:
Jadeite certainly feels that way. It's a case of what came first: Rei or the emptiness? Was the emptiness always there, though he was unaware of it? Or did seeing her make him dissatisfied? Either way, his dissatisfaction certainly unnerves Nephrite.
He'll take whatever he can get. Seeing a pattern in my characterisation yet? *lol*
It's interesting that he is shown wanting her, when the other three are totally focused on Beryl. It's a visceral response, very physical. Of course, it helps the running theme of Rei's beauty disarming men, but I do think there is a bit more to it than that, because he is supposed to be evil and brainwashed.
I'm quite proud of this one. Thanks for the thoughtful review.
