Summary:A drabble about Lily and James

“Have you forgotten the way to The Three Broomsticks? Or is there something very interesting about that corner you keep glancing at?”

“No, I just thought I saw something…”

“Again? What is it that has caught your eye, and should I be offended that it isn’t me?”

“It’s nothing, James. Probably just a play of light and shadows. Let’s carry on.”

“Alright, so where do you want to go? I know I said The Three Broomsticks, but we can go anywhere else you want. I heard Madam Puddifoot’s is very popular with you girls.”

“James Potter, do you honestly think I am the kind of girl who goes to Madam Puddifoot’s?”

“Eh… no?”

“Too right, I’m not. Let’s just go to the Three Broomsticks, get a Butterbeer, have a sandwich and be done with it.”

“But – are you sure you don’t want to visit somewhere else? I mean, Zonko’s has this great sale on retractable fingernails. And don’t you need a new quill from Scrivenshaft’s? Your old one is getting so worn out. And Honeydukes… well, it’s so nice in there.”

“Hmm... I suppose it is nice in there”

“Yes, so shall we stop by there first?”

“Can I help you two?”

“Yes, I would like a box of Sugar Mice and my friend here would like a – what would you like, Lily?”

“May I have the darkest in your Moonless Midnight series?”

“Are you sure you want that, Miss? It’s not something to try for the first time. More bitter than anything else. I recommend the Milky Way. Revolves and melts in your mouth, that one does.”

“No, thank you. I’m quite used to the Moonless Midnight.”

“Are you sure? I only ask because this taste is so rare. I enjoy it a lot and tend to know those who share my taste. And I only know of one Hogwarts student who frequently buys this – and you don’t look anything like him.”

“Just give her the chocolate already.”

“Oh, sorry. Here, that will be one Galleon and twelve Sickles.”

“What? You must be joking!”

“Your lady friend there has expensive taste.”

“It’s alright, James. He’s telling the truth. I’ll pay for this-”

“No, Lily, it’s my treat.”

“Are you sure?”

“When did you start liking that chocolate?”

“A long time ago. Back in my first year. A friend introduced me to it.”

“Must be some chocolate, to cost that much.”

“Here, would you like to try it?”

“Eh... okay. Though I am not really a chocolate – ARGH!”

“James, are you okay?”

“Lily, what type of sweet is this?”

“It’s... different from all other.”

“Yeah, I noticed. How can you stick something like this in your mouth? I would rather swallow Skele-Gro.”

“It's an acquired taste…”

“I’ll stick to my Sugar Mice, thanks.”

“Sorry, I got distracted.”

“Saw something in a street corner again?”

“No, but not for the lack of trying.”

Love the subtle depth, here. I can almost picture him standing in the shadows just out of sight, wishing he were the one beside her and not realizing she d... (more)
