Theodore Nott sat at his new desk. He had just been hired to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. Though he was young, many of his generation would have been qualified to teach this class. Because of the war at Hogwarts, many of the students already had pre-existing knowledge and it would be his job to make sure they totally understood what they had seen during the war and to help the younger generations understand the ramifications of the Dark Arts.
He sat and thought about what he would teach. He remembered all the teachers he has when attending Hogwarts, and though he hated to admit it to himself, the year he learned the most was when the werewolf Remus Lupin was teaching. He needed to find a way to teach the students the about Dark spells, Dark creatures, and the forces out there to defend about such things. He needed to remember their ages, he didn’t want to scare them before their minds were ready for the material, but he also knew he needed to keep his lessons interesting.
He was quickly forming a plan. He pulled out some scrolls and made a list:
1st Year: Lesser Dark creatures and careers that work with them
2nd year: Aurors and how the defend the public; introduction to defensive spells/charms
3rd year: Dangerous Dark creatures and careers that work to defend the public/control them; moderately hard defensive spells/charms/curses, wizard dueling
4th year: History of Dark Arts, Past Dark wars and their impact on current policies, more advanced defensive spells/charms/curses
5th year: Harry Potter/Voldemort Wars, introduction to the Unforgivable Curses (discussion only)
6th year: The darkest creatures, defensive spells/charms/curses
7th year: Unforgivable curses, Patronus, Animagus, interviews with Aurors/careers that work with dark creatures
Theodore looked at his notes and was pleased. This would help guide him over the next few weeks as he made up lesson plans for his classes. He would learn as he went, too as this was his first time teaching. Keeping an open mind and meeting the needs of each class would be a challenge he was very willing to undertake.
