Time, A Prison

I no longer know how much time has passed since I took up my duty as the guardian of time. Ironically, time has lost all meaning for me here, in this world outside of time. Nothing ever changes here…except for me.

Not physically, of course. Since time does not exist here, I have not aged a day since I was put in charge of guarding the gates. Not even my hair grows. I’ve kept the same hairstyle for going on millennia, ignoring whatever style happened to be “in fashion” in the present. There was no point in changing it; nobody ever came to see me.

But I have changed, on the inside. I’ve grown more lonely, more depressed. I consider it an honor to serve as the Time Guardian, but I would be lying if I said that I didn’t hate it at times. I sometimes feel like a prisoner chained up in a dungeon for a crime I don’t even remember committing. What I wouldn’t give to spend just one day in the time stream! There is no such thing as a holiday or vacation for a Time Guardian. I’m not allowed to leave my post, no matter what the circumstance.

If only I could escape this prison… There’s so much I would like to do, to experience for myself instead of only observing from afar. I’ve seen so much, but I’ve faced so little in my long, eternal life. I’ve never even been in love.

It is a hopeless dream, though. Unlike in fairy tales, there’s no such thing as a Fairy Godmother to make my wish come true. I will forever be a prisoner of time, chained to my duty as Sailor Pluto.
