It was difficult to imagine what it had been like back there. They sometimes tried to remember the jealousy, the fear, the grasping desperation as they saw their mother die before their eyes. Pain is supposedly easier to remember than pleasure, it lingers longer in the mind. They couldn't remember. It was like their stay on that planet had been one long nightmare and now they were awake, happy on their verdant planet with their mother, the World Tree. Or perhaps this part was the dream and the other part had been waking reality. Perhaps this was what death was supposed to be. Paradise.

They did not concern themselves with the matter very much. Time did not feature in their lives. Eternity was their companion. Life or death... sleeping or waking... such matters were unimportant.

They each picked up a fallen apple and bit into it, smiling.

Don't wake me from the dream, it's really everything it seems...
