Mommy Please Love Me: Story of a Crystal Princess

~ Introduction

Princess Serenity sat upon one of the window seats in her bedchamber looking onto the scenic palace gardens below. She often took solace in the peace and beauty she found there. The sun suspended in a sea of lapis blue, a fiery disk like a torch burning high in the sky. It was springtime, and the grassy lawns had sprung to life , their emerald-green tones a perfect contrast to the color they supported around them. All the flowers were in full bloom, the colorful setting leaving no trace of the horrific battle that had taken place months earlier. She was determined to distract herself from such morbid thoughts of those darker days, the sorrow, the grief and the agony of bereavement that a younger princess struggled to bear alone.

She thought back to much happier times, to a time when she was a little munchkin sent back to 21st century Tokyo before the ice and the bitter cold ostensibly to train with the Sailor Senshi and bond with her family and friends in those happier years. Her mother had talked to her more candidly about the reasons they’d decided on this strategy to keep her safe and provide her with a more animated childhood with a world not beset by ice and snow and above all, the threat posed by The Dark Moon Family.

She, the precocious little girl -- Chibi-Usa, or Small Lady -- basked in the light of the new reality of Tokyo of the past and loved it all. The world was for her back then a wondrous place filled with miracles and love, school, play, outings with her younger parents and their Senshi. She delighted in the company of her new friends.

But also, she had an affinity with nature that left her frozen world in the future for dead. She especially loved to spend time away on her own where she could daydream, sing to the animals and birds. But despite all the marvels the past offered her, she had missed her parents terribly.

Serenity’s thoughts skipped a few years ahead and she smiled with fondness at the memories of her blossoming adolescence and her kinship with the four young guardians: Vesta, Ceres, Palla and Juno. What those girls had to endure when it came to keeping her entertained must have been a monumental task. She chuckled at the chaperoning, the lectures Haruka and Michiru, Hotaru and Setsuna lavished upon her person and sometimes her trembling suitors that sat holding her hand as the Senshi gave them the third degree on appropriate behavior in her company.

She thought some of them were scared off by this. But grinned, for not all her love interests were so easily dissuaded, thankfully. Diana was, and remained to the present day, her faithful companion as was Luna and Artemis her steadfast pillars of support. She had been content.

Serenity’s mind began to drift back once again. She remembered the Crown Arcade, the many good times had by all. Oh how her father was so mean to her mother. She smiled at this thought and longed to return to those hallowed days. Sure, life was punctuated by dark villains: The Dark Moon Family, all but the three sisters surviving the monstrous ambitions of the cruel Wiseman. She had gotten to know her parents a lot better in those times when she’d needed that most. She loved the fact Usagi was a typical adolescent, with a passion for fun and ice cream, these only matched by her own. As for pancakes and cookies, comics and vid games, here too they were evenly matched.

She had been so selfish at times. But she laughed at the silly rivalry between herself and the bright-eyed Usagi and thought with fondness upon those hilarious encounters. But sadly, memories were all she had of them now.

Oh and what of Hotaru and her father, the whole business with Dr. Tomoe, Kaori Knight, Mistress 9 and Pharaoh 90. She still shuddered at the thought. Then there was her faery-tale relationship with… she couldn’t bear to think about him now. Nehelenia and her Dark Moon Circus and the magical world of the Beautiful Dreamers, then the Stars and Animates to Galaxia. What her family had endured was more than anyone should in a millennium, let alone a short span of a few years.
She remembered how frightened she was after returning to Crystal Tokyo and how her family came to her aid, rescuing her from those dreams imposed upon her little consciousness and helped her overcome the labyrinth of falsehoods, nightmare and brought her safely back to the arms of those she loved most. Finally, when the Wiseman was defeated and the shadow of herself had departed, she felt her life fall back into place.

She had her difficult times while growing up as a normal teenage girl, but she was happy. The peace was restored, the planet’s ice had thawed, and the future was lush and green. She was foolish ever to expect it would last.
