But It’s Only Midnight by vegetasbubble

It was none o’clock and the party that brought seniors and juniors and sophomores and freshman come together for a mid summer bash was just starting. It was the annual event that had been taking place for nearly ten years with current and past students. Five seventeen year old girls had just arrived and were eyeing off everyone who had already arrived.

They were known throughout all ages, even the seniors one year ahead of them. Cousins Minako and Usagi, and their friends Matako, Rei and Ami were their names and they held the eyes of those already at the party for the longest five minutes anyone had ever suffered.

Usagi was the leader without a doubt although everyone knew she and fellow friend Rei were always fighting it out over the rights to lead. Usagi had one of the best fashion senses the school had seen in years. She had a way to make all colours work and even though they had to wear uniforms to school when Usagi came you knew to expect something new. She even got sent to the principal’s office a couple of weeks ago just because she had taken her skirt up another inch. The funniest thing about Usagi was that you knew that she was going to do something, you just didn’t know what. Like when she turned up to school wearing high heel pumps, or when she turned around one year and hacked her long hair off and dyed it red for the fun of it.

Minako and Matako were the opposite. They had known each other since pre-school and the two had grown up with a style of their own. Minako had a way of wearing clothes that were vintage and brought a certain quality about them modern, whereas Matako would wear clothes that would try and hide her height, like strapless dresses that would draw attention to her boobs rather than her height.

While Rei and Ami were friends with the girls, Rei spent a lot of her time at her Grandfather’s temple and didn’t really go out with Usagi and the others often unless it was a very good reason. This classified as a good reason. Ami, on the other hand, was a shy girl who had to be begged to come to parties.

Minako and Matako stood next to Usagi in the large hallway of the house. Usagi was currently looking in the mirror end of her compact mirror, a finger in her mouth biting gently on the nail, grinning when she spotted her current squeeze, Mamoru, heading towards the girls.

“So, Usa, how long has it been now?” Minako asked, nudging her cousin in the arm.
“Five glorious weeks,” Usagi replied, seeing Mamoru nearing closer, “Oh! Here we go!” Rei and Ami giggled as they watched their childhood friend act like an absolute child. Minako and Makoto watched as Mamoru neared them. The girls were happy that their friend was in an enjoyable relationship with someone who actually made her happy.

Mamoru was attractive alright. The eighteen year old senior had surprised them all – even Usagi herself- when he had asked her out to the movies. She had been sitting on the grassy hill by the soccer field eating their lunch when a stray soccer ball had been kicked over towards them- and right into Usagi’s head.

She had been pushed back, landing on Minako’s lap.

“Ow!” she had shouted, holding her head and moaning heavily. “That hurt. Where did that ball come from? When I find out…” Usagi had stopped talking and looked up and blushed deep red. The others looked up and see Mamoru running towards them. “Oh crap…”

“Usagi, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry! Did I hurt you?” he asked, kneeling down beside her and holding her head with his hand.

“Ugh, yeah…just a little……um,” she replied, leaning into his touch.

“Can I make it up to you, Usa?” he asked, using the pet name he had heard her friends use, “How about dinner and a movie?”

Usagi had instantly said yes and two days later, Usagi had come back to school with a grin on her face and Mamoru’s hand in hers. Now, Minako watched her cousin run over and giver her boyfriend a huge hug. Two boys, whom Minako hadn’t noticed until now, stepped back out of the way. Minako and Makoto gasped. Two attractive boys whom neither of them had seen before were standing behind Mamoru. One with lavender colored hair and the other with dark black hair like Mamoru.

Ami and Rei had sneaked off to see their other friends so the two girls were left to look at the two boys. Usagi pulled away from Mamoru and turned to Minako and Matako.

“Girls, you know Mamoru,” Usagi said, even though Usagi knew for a fact that the girls did know her boyfriend, “Mamoru, these are my friends Minako and Makoto.”
“Yeah, I know Usagi. Minako and I take geography together. Makoto takes cooking with one of my friends from the soccer team.”

“Yeah,” replied both girls. They grinned when the two boys look briefly at them. “Oh, girls…this is Trunks and Goten. They’re friends from West City. I actually met them at a gig.”
“Oh, you’re in a band?” Makoto asked, her eyes going straight to Goten’s.

“Yeah, sorta. In between school and work,” Goten replied, stepping around Mamoru and Usagi and moved towards her. Makoto grinned and followed Goten off into another room. Usagi linked her arm with Minako and smiled.

“Mamoru, Trunks. Want to grab Minako and I a drink?” Usagi stated, dragging Minako over to the closest couch.

Trunks and Mamoru headed off, Minako grinning as she watched Trunks walk off.

“He has a cute butt,” Minako stated, then realized what she had said. She clapped her hand over her mouth, blushing.

“Minako,” Usagi said, leaning over and elbowing her cousin, “Do you have a crush on Trunks?”

“Well,” Minako replied, removing her hand from her mouth and fanning herself, “Not a crush. Just interested. He looks……nice.”

“Oh please. I seen the looks you and Makoto were giving them. You’re in love.”

“Don’t be stupid, Usa,” Minako replied, “He’s dreamy, yes. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to drop everything else. Neither should you.”

“Wow, you must really like him. You’re quoting your mother,” replied Usagi.

Minako was just about to slap her cousin’s arm when the boys returned. Usagi grinned but Minako’s face fell.

“Here you go Minako,” Mamoru said, handing her a drink. He had carried both.

“Thanks,” she replied.

“I’m going to get some air,” Trunks stated, more to Mamoru than anyone else.

“Okay. I’ll find you later then,” his friend replied and just like that, Trunks left.

“What a jerk,” Minako muttered, sipping at her drink, “You got me soft drink?”

“Yeah, you’re only seventeen,” he replied, sitting down next to Usagi, swinging his arm around her shoulder.

“And you’re only eighteen, yet you’re drinking beer.”

“Usa,” Mamoru said, only to Usagi it came out as a purr, “Do girls like beer?”

“And who’s party is this?”

“Yours.”

“And do I ever serve any drink beside beer?”

“Nope. Only soft drink.” Mamoru threw a look that said ‘Ha-ha. I won.’

“Whatever. I’m going to look around. See who else is here.” Standing up, Minako left her drink and her cousin behind as she walked around the couch to the kitchen.

No one interesting in there. Ami and Rei were chatting to a couple of guys from the swim team. In the hallway, Goten had Matako up against the wall, his lips on hers and his hand up her shirt. Minako giggled and continued on.

She eventually made her way outside to where heaps of people had gathered to talk. She spotted Trunks- his brilliant lavender hair standing out- leaning against a tree, sipping a beer. She flicked her blonde hair back behind her shoulders, adjusted her white dress so that just a little more cleavage was showing.

“Boobage is power,” her mother had once told her. Grinning like a Cheshire cat, Minako made her way over to him. As she neared him, she grinned.

He got off the tree when he seen her coming.

Then he left. He walked away, just like that.

“What the - ”

Running back inside, Minako hurried back to the lounge room. Spotting Usagi and Mamoru on the couch, she casually made her way over to the couple.

“Hey Mina,” Usagi giggled – obviously she had had some of Mamoru’s beer- “What ya doing?”

“Well, I was looking for sober Usa, but I suppose drunk Usa is going to have to do.”

“Just tell me,” Usagi said, trying to ignore the feeling her boyfriend gave her when he ran his hand up and down her arm.

“Trunks walked away from me,” she stated, leaning back in the armchair she was sitting in, “I smiled, I walked like a model, I even showed boobage!”

“You took your mothers advice,” Usagi said, “You never take your mother’s advice. Wow, you must really like him.”

“Shut up Usa,” Minako snapped, knowing her cousin was making fun of her, “Mamoru, whats going on with him?”

“I told him I wouldn’t tell anyone, not even Usa,” Mamoru replied, “I can’t Mina, sorry.”

“Please, Mamoru. I really need to know.”

“I can’t…”

Minako pouted and stood up, walking away from the couple and back outside, a mission on her mind. She was going to track down Trunks and find out what was going on. She spotted him, leaving against the railing of the house, his beer can forgotten on the rail next to him.

She took a deep breath and marched up to him.

“What the hell is your problem?” she shouted.

“What?” She had frightened him and he had jumped slightly.

“What’s your problem? You completely ignore me inside, shove me off into a corner and then walk away from me when all I want to do is talk,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Its not you, I just don’t like to talk.”

“To anybody?”

“Nope.”

“Well, that’s just stupid.”

He faced her, wondering if he heard her right.

“Pardon?”

“Its stupid. You can’t not talk to people. Build’s up anger and frustration and then you just take it out on those close to you. What about Mamoru and Goten?”

“They’re guys,” he said, “They don’t listen.”

“I’m not a guy.”

“But I don’t know you.”

Minako grinned and held her hand out to him.

“Aino Minako, seventeen. Junior. A year away from leaving the school and starting my modeling career and becoming a designer,” she said.

Trunks grinned.

“Trunks Brief, eighteen. Senior. Six months away from leaving school and venturing into a career in the music business,” he replied, placing his hand in hers and smiling.

Minako smiled back and noticed that he kept his hand in hers a little longer than required before releasing it.

“So, now that you know me, wanna chat?”

“Now?”

Checking her watch, Minako grinned, “Yeah, its only ten. Come on, there’s a coffee place down the road. They’re still open. Then we can go for ice-cream.”

Trunks grinned and stood up straight, taking her hand and tugging her closer.

“Lets go then,” he said. Minako grinned, loving the feeling of his hand in hers.

“Shall we let the other know?” she said, noticing that he was taking his cell phone out of his pocket.

“Its fine,” he said, flipping his phone shut, “I just messaged Mamoru and told him we’ll be back soon.”

“Cool, then lets go,” Minako said, smiling up at him. Where she was standing, against his tall frame, her chin touched his chest. He reached a hand up and touched her hair.

They grinned at each other before making their way down the stairs and onto the sidewalk.

It was dark and Trunks’ hold on her hand stayed tight. They neared the coffee shop but Minako noticed a group of older men standing outside the shop, smoking cigarettes and drinking beer.

“Maybe we should go somewhere else,” Minako suggested, stopping.

“Why? Don’t worry, I’ll protect you,” he said.

Minako grinned a half grin, like she still wasn’t sure that they should do this. In order to make her feel better, Trunks removed his hand from hers and wrapped it around her shoulder and pulled her close against him.

They made their way down the street and neared the group of men. As they walked past them, Minako heard them step forward.

“Hey baby, wanna join us for a smoke?” one asked, “Leave the little man and come have some fun.”

“No thankyou,” she replied.

“Come on,” another said, grabbing her dress and tugging her back.

“Ah! Let go!” Trunks heard her yell and turned a little to see what the men were doing to her. Seeing them grabbing hold of her dress, he turned and pushed the man away.

“Back off,” he yelled, standing in front of her in a protective stance.

“What ya gonna do about it, little boy?” one said, pulling a lead pipe out of his back pocket, and started patting his hand with it.

“Back off,” Trunks repeated. The three men pushed forward to attack Trunks. He pushed Minako back and held his ground as the three men pounced on him. Minako watched as Trunks hit the men, and for some reason each single punch seemed to knock them out cold.

Not even twenty seconds later, the three men were moaning as they laid on the sidewalk. Trunks moved back to Minako and touched her face, “You okay?”

She nodded and he smiled.

“Come on, I’ll take you home.”

“But what about coffee?” she asked.

“We’ll stop for ice-cream.”

They made their way back to the party and Trunks directed Minako to a red sports car parked on the side of the road.

”Its Mamoru’s,” he said, seeing her face when she seen the car, “We’re borrowing it, Goten and I. Its my night to borrow it…” Minako smiled and leaned her back against the car. She grabbed the edges of his jacked and pulled him closer to her. Her head rested against the top of the car and his hands fell to rest on her hips.

“Thankyou, for letting me in a little,” she said, very slowly and just a little sexily. He felt a chill run down his spine.

“I’ll let you in more, I promise,” he replied, lowering his face to hers. He breathed in her smell- lilac- and ran his hand up her side and down again, very slowly and gently. She flushed, feeling absolutely wonderful. His hair tickled her ear and she almost feel to her knees when his lips passed over her ear, nipping it very gently at the top. Trunks raised his head and smiled, knowing he effect he had on her.

“That’s, very…sneaky,” she whispered, placing one hand behind his head and pulling his face down to hers, his mouth crashing against hers in a heated kiss. His hands gripped her hips, hers gripped his hair. They battled for dominance and Trunks won as his tongue licked gently over hers and over her teeth. She moved her hands to his chest, pushing her hands up and inside his shirt, moaning as he ran a hand up her side and touched the outside of her breast.

She slowly pulled her mouth away from his, breathing heavily and feeling very good when she heard him breath heavily as well. His blue eyes bore into her own and his face was a lot happier than when she had first met him. He leaned down, placed one single kiss on her lips and then placed his forehead against hers, breathing in.

“That was good,” he whispered, tracing the shell of her ear with his forefinger, “Do you mind if I do it again?”

Minako grinned, touching his chest against with her fingers – very lightly. “You may,” she said, seeing his face light up against, “After you buy me some ice-cream.”

Thankyou for reading this and I hope it was enjoyed. This is the first time I have written Minako/Trunks which is probably why I went for the AU version and not a canon story.
