To be fair, the story isn't exactly what I intended; it's up to the reader to decide exactly what the end result is about: power or fulfilling a promise.

Well, believe it or not, despite what others may think, this is, by far, my favorite of all your shorts. I loved it because from my perspective, it was a great ambiguous story that stretches the possibility just slightly. Sometimes, even if we think we know someone else to the point that we can anticipate everything that they do, they could still surprise us, even if the logic behind what may seem like a "betrayal" to the rest of the world, to them is not.
