Wow.... This is amazing. Minako's always seemed to me like she had two different faces; there's the hyperactive optimist she displays to everyone else, but there's no way anyone can sustain that indefinitely, and I think you really get at the heart of her situation. My heart was breaking for her - for all of them, really. I get the feeling that the three of them could have made an almost invincible team, but they all contributed to their own tearing apart. I think out of everyone involved, Minako's the only one who's going to come out of it more mature and healthy in the long run, simply because of her supportive friends... it hurts to think of Alan and Katarina, though.

Author's response:
Oh, Lord this is late. ^^; I am so sorry.
I have sometimes wondered if Minako's bipolar. I'm not sure if I actually prescribe to that idea or not, but it's definitely something to think about considering how she really does have two personalities.
The three of them really did have a great relationship, and the whole thing is really unfortunate. No one's totally the bad guy in the situation either, which makes it harder. Alan's wrong for cheating, but it's difficult to blame him for feeling neglected when Katarina essentially shoved him out of her life. But you can't blame Kat either because losing a baby's enough to throw anyone for a pretty major loop. And then there's Minako stumbling into a situation she doesn't understand and making some very bad decisions as a result.
Katarina and Alan might learn to grow from it, but it will definitely take them a lot longer if it does happen. Minako is in a much better position to heal.
Thank you so much for reviewing!

This was an absolutely beautiful story.
I admit that I don't know much about Sailor V, and only know of Alan and Katarina through fan conversation. In spite of that, I really feel like I could connect with everyone in the story...and for a few moments I felt like I was "watching a train wreck". You did a great job with handling realistically complex and nasty emotions. No one looked totally like the bad guy, but, on some level at least two of them felt that way.
I think you did a very good job, both with characterisation and with drawing the reader into the story. (And there was some good humor as well.) Overall, a great story. It's made me want to find out more about Sailor V...and maybe even read some more Minako centered stuff.

Author's response:
Yay! Thank you for reviewing! :D I'm glad I got to return the favor by reviewing "Ties," which is awesome by the by.
Anywhodiddly, Sailor V is a part of canon that needs more exploration in my opinion. There's a lot to discover in the anime version of her story, although it's fun to play around with the manga as well, though I'll focus on anime since that was what this story was dealing with. One of the really great things about this story was that Katarina and Alan had virtually no characterization based on what we saw of them. You know next to nothing about Alan - save that he probably viewed Minako as a little sister (unless of course you're Kate). And all you really know about Katarina is that she worked for Interpol and loved Minako (and later Alan) very, very much.
I want to say it was tough dealing with all that nastiness, but it really wasn't. Possibly because I approached the situation feeling that everyone is the bad guy. Minako got involved with a married man and her best friend's husband, Alan essentially manipulated Minako into bed with him, and Katarina refused to let her own husband help her for fear of looking weak, which was bound to lead them all to disaster. And in the end, Katarina comes out looking the best even though in many ways she behaved just as badly as Minako and Alan.
I'm glad that characterization rang true and that you don't think readers were bored by it. That's probably my one biggest fret on this one.
And you should definitely read more Minako stuff. :D If you want somewhere to start, just browse through my stuff. XD Thanks again for reviewing!

I'll be honest. I read the complete version elsewhere. And I held out and waited until the story was complete before reading.
I am so glad I did. Even though it was heartwrenching to see Minako having to 'grow up' in such a way, I think it is totally fitting with her character to have to go through those realisations the way she did. Brilliantly done. I have even more of an appreciation of the girl named Minako than before.

Author's response:
I do think this is one of my (few) fics that might be better to read through in one sitting. ^^; I am so happy to hear that you liked the story! I had a love/hate relationship with this story while it was in the works, and it's great to hear that it was all worth it.
Minako is an extreme personality, so I think in order for her to undergo any major personality change, something major would have to happen. And since she is something of a tragedy whore, I rather thought that heartbreak was the only way she was going to be able to pull herself out of her rut. As she would attempt to say, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
And I am also thrilled to hear that this affected your perception of my Minako-chan in anyway. ^_^ Thank you very much for commenting!
