Unspoken Oblivion by Jaded Catalyst

previous  Chapter 6: The Warrior Within  next

Jay’s mind was in flames. A searing fire burned in her eyes and under her skin, singeing her to the very core of her existence. Something had awakened inside of her that hadn’t shown itself for a century. That interior being was capable destruction on unimaginable levels.

Keener senses, heightened alertness, and a soul burning with life left Jay feeling open and even worse: vulnerable. She wanted nothing more than to cower in the deepest recesses of her mind, but she knew better than to do so. Her emotions weren’t the only thing she had to fear.

For some, pushing away their conscious sanity would leave them a shell, incapable of feeling – a being hovering between the line of life and death. For others, a feral beast emerges, lost in the internal chaos eating at their souls. However, for one being, it would be a warrior that emerges. If Jay were to let go of her humanity, she would become a cold and magnificent warrior, willing to achieve her goals no matter what the cost. A ruthless killer dwelled within the confines of Jay’s mind. Its thirst for blood and longing for devastation ate away at Jay’s humanity. Her human half feared the warrior, but it also recognized its necessity.

The awakening of the Warrior signified a great change in the world. She had blinded herself to the signs for all these years, but now there was no denying it. The King’s illusion was breaking down. It was a terrifying though. Everything that had been forgotten over the last century would soon come crashing down once again, and an Ancient War would resume its endless bloodshed.

Jay wasn’t afraid to fight; her soul thrived off the chaos she could so easily unleash. Rather than worry for herself, she worried about her friends. In the time of the war, they were comrades, only trusted for their ability to fight and command their troops. However, in this life, with the war wiped from history itself, they were more than just trusted companions; they were her friends.

She would fight for them, without a doubt. Yet she feared the Warrior more than anything else. This conundrum only served the arouse Jay further, causing the Warrior to become and even more powerful entity.

In her eyes, Jay was little more than a bloodthirsty warrior – a beast.

She drove past her house in search of an escape, and there was only one person in the world who could tame the beast that dwelled within her.
